Neck And Arm Pain Treatment In San Antonio
What Are The Causes Of Neck And Shoulder/Arm Pain? The vast majority of cases of neck and arm pain are related to issues in the joints and surrounding soft tissue structures (discs, muscles, and ligaments). In many situations, shoulder and arm pain actually originates in structures in the neck. For example, a cervical disc herniation in the neck will often produce pain in the shoulder and shoulder blade, and may radiate all the way down one or both arms. Many shoulder problems, even those in which there is definite involvement of the shoulder joint and/or muscles (such as the rotator cuff), often begin as biomechanical imbalances in the neck and/or upper back and these areas must be assessed and have the problems corrected before the shoulder problem can be effectively resolved. How Are These Problems Treated? All too often, the treatment applied to neck and arm complaints is primarily directed at simply suppressing the symptoms with medication. Little attention is given to correcting underlying biomechanical problems that will continue to produce inflammation, pain, and gradually increasing problems over time. In our office, we take a more corrective approach. We evaluate each patient thoroughly and develop a plan of treatment to not only alleviate pain as quickly as possible, but also to restore function to joints and soft tissues to allow for long-term healing and to allow the patient to enjoy a healthy, active life.
