Back Pain In San Antonio?

Back Pain San Antonio

Suffering from back pain San Antonio?

Back pain treatment in our San Antonio office is tailored to the specific needs of each individual patient. Whereas many doctors treat all back pain the same way, we recognize that there are many causes for back pain and many factors that have to be taken into consideration when treating it.

For example, the causes and participating factors in the sudden-onset back pain of a 20 year old athlete who was injured on the playing field are very different from the causes and participating factors in the chronic back pain of an 80 year old with osteoporosis and degenerative arthritis. Doesn't it make sense then to evaluate and treat these cases differently? Yet, all too often, doctors are too busy to take the time to carefully evaluate each case individually and simply opt for the quickest and easiest treatment they can provide (usually writing a prescription for painkillers or anti-inflammatory medication) so they can get on to the next patient.

The approach we take in our San Antonio back pain clinic is to take the time to sit down with each patient, discuss how their pain started and get information about lifestyle issues that might play a role in their back pain. We then evaluate them carefully, perform whatever diagnostic tests are needed to get a clear understanding of the causes of their condition(s) and then formulate a specific plan of treatment specific to that patient's needs.

Our goal is to not only provide back pain relief, but also to assist the patient in correcting the underlying causes for their symptoms as much as possible in order to keep them as healthy as possible for the long-term.

To this end, we have found that the most effective way to treat back pain is not to simply try to cover it up with medication. While medication does provide short term relief in many cases, it merely prevents the person from feeling the pain - it does not encourage healing and in some cases it even interferes with healing. This can lead to situations in which the back pain sufferer feels enough better that he or she begins activities that the back injury is not yet sufficiently healed to handle, leading not only to a return of symptoms, but a more severe injury that may be more difficult to recover from. We see quite a number of cases like this in our San Antonio back pain clinic, so we know it is a common problem.

While fast back pain relief is always our first focus, our approach is to provide that pain relief through methods that actually enhance healing, so in addition to our activity recommendations, the patient actually has a much better feeling for what he or she can do safely without causing further injury.

In addition to approaching each back pain patient we see as an individual with specific needs, we offer some highly effective new treatments such as spinal decompression that can not only ease symptoms quickly, but actually promote healing and enable patients to return to favorite activities as quickly as possible.
