Seeing A "Back Doctor" In San Antonio

Back Doctor

Our doctors are quite a bit different from the typical "back doctor" in San Antonio, and elsewhere in the U.S.. Many physicians who promote themselves as back doctors utilize a "one-size-fits-all" approach that is dependent on their particular field of practice. For example, orthopedic surgeons typically recommend surgery - and often the same type of surgery - for most patients they see. Chiropractors tend to recommend a standard program of chiropractic adjustments - the same for just about everybody. Doctors who do spinal injections will usually recommend spinal injections for most of their patients. You get the idea.

But because the conditions and underlying factors that cause people to seek out a back doctor can vary greatly, we feel it is far more appropriate to get a good understanding of the causes for each individual patient's back pain and then make recommendations based on the specific needs of that individual.

For instance, the overall treatment plan for back pain due to a bulging disc in a 30 year old weight lifter really should be different than the treatment of back pain due to a degenerated disc in a relatively inactive 70 year old. In our San Antonio office, the treatment plan for these two cases would most certainly be different, but many doctors would treat them both exactly the same, and the treatment would be based primarily on what the doctor prefers to do, not necessarily what would serve the patient best.

The back doctors in our San Antonio clinic believe it is important to take the time to sit down with each patient, discuss how their pain started and get information about lifestyle issues that might play a role in their back pain. Our doctors evaluate them carefully, perform whatever diagnostic tests are needed to get a clear understanding of the causes of their condition(s), and then formulate a specific plan of treatment specific to that patient's needs.

While our initial goal is to provide fast back pain relief, our back doctors also work to assist the patient in correcting the underlying causes for their back pain as much as possible in order to keep them as healthy as possible for the long-term.
